It was during the 1997 Thanksgiving holiday, that I came across this scene on the Metro North Railroad's 125th Street platform, up in Harlem. I originally spotted the building by an old painted sign on its side, advertising "The Callahan Hat Company", which used to be located on the Bowery. But as I came face to face with this old building, I was drawn to the long shadows and the way the structure interacted with the empty lot next door. The name "Death Row" comes from the view of old burned-out buildings, that lined the railroad tracks up in Harlem. Most of these buildings (including this one) are now gone.
