This painting is my first response to the world's never ending curiosity for the New York City subway system. I wanted to render a scene that would capture the aura created by this almost mythical beast, which rumbles beneath our feet. Down on the platform, the harsh glow of the overhead lights, barely keeps us balanced with the endless night haunting the tunnels. A departing train slips into the darkness. Our eyes follow, watching the receding lights fade to black into the tunnel's gate. Beyond the darkness that will always be there; waiting patiently for the chance to return and reclaim the night.
