One of the first things you see upon exiting the Stillwell Street Subway Station is the Famous Nathan's Hot Dog Stand. It's a timeless old building which is still in full operation, living up to its reputation of serving great hot dogs. Having no shortage of fans, the place is busy even in the dead of winter when the rest of Coney Island is asleep.
The thing I love about the place is its incredible array of neon signs that line its facade. This scene depicts a view just after sunset on a cold winter day. The first neon signs were just switched on and the floodlights were kept off for some reason. So the building was covered with these incredible washes of the various colors radiating from the buzzing neon. In the background, above the building is part of the parachute drop tower which is a couple of blocks away on the boardwalk. And yea, that's me in the doorway scoring a late lunch.
