"Romeo and Juliett lost in New York", 2005

New York City gets transformed when it snows in a way no other place can. The gray sky sits low enveloping the tips of the skyscrapers, making them look much taller than they actually are. On the avenues, what are normally canyons of steel and cement are now filled in with the swirls of clouds who seem to have been pulled down from their lofty places in the sky. Caught in wild currents of wind whistling through the streets, they race back and forth like large schools of fish evading a predator.
Looking up Park Avenue, the normal chaos of traffic guided by the endless rows of signal lights is quietly muted with the whisper of the falling snows. Occasionally, these whispers turn to howls when they can catch a gust and ride the old walls until spun into eddies of calm, causing them to fall slowly to the ground. Along the avenue the quiet is slowly interrupted by the sight of a couple making their way across and to the other side in a scattered rush. They seem happy in their cadence. In a hurry, but also enjoying the storm with childish innocence of living a moment neither wishes would ever pass.
Indeed they do look lost; lost in each other.
