"Season's End", 2004
Marc Winnat, Artist
Acrylic on Canvas
One of Coney Island's best sideshows is actually the main event held every evening in the late fall, commonly called sunset. It's this time of year when the sun sets directly over the pier when viewed from the boardwalk in the last breaths of the season.
The painted sky washes in a flood of colors blended so perfectly that any scrutiny becomes an impossible challenge and is quickly withdrawn. Pick your spot and settle in. Couples lean close in a quiet ease. No need to speak as their embrace is strengthened by the warmth of the Sun's last rays reaching their mark. Even the old Russians fishing on the pier let the ashes build on their cigarettes as their hardened faces reflect the glow in the fading light.
It's sunset on Coney Island and it's the Season's End.
